Following on from the launch of the shiny new IE9 we take a look at the what the fuss is about and surprisingly, we find that not only has it taken style tips from the most adorned, but it is clever as well.
Sleek design
It’s simple and benefits from an altogether sleeker appearance; install the new browser and your viewing space won’t be taken up by new toolbars
It can read your mind!
Internet Explorer 9 will quickly assimilate which websites you visit the most and present these to you in a handy ‘popular sites’ tab.
Uncomplicated
Strange but true: The most commonly clicked button in a web browser is the back arrow, that’s why in IE9 the back button is given prominence.
Easy download
The Download Manager will keep track of your downloads and scan for viruses. It also comes equipped with handy pause and resume controls.
Fast searches
Gone is the address bar of old, in comes the new ‘One box’ which also doubles as your search bar. Want to perform a search? Simply type into this box and Bing will handily return your search results. It also offers you some pretty nifty search suggestions – should you turn on search suggestions!
All the best bits
One of the most innovative new features to be found in Windows 7 was the ability to ‘snap’ windows. This strangely useful action automatically (and intelligently) resizes a given window so you can control its whereabouts onscreen. So now you can view two webpages side-by-side without the need for two computer monitors. Hoorah.
Tear it off
Useful if you’re shopping online and need to compare products, or researching a subject for your studies. For a satisfactory tear just click and drag the tab of your choosing – it will automatically detach itself from your browser window and leave it free to be placed elsewhere.
Jump
Jump lists are essentially a grouped set of links relevant to a site – for instance pinning Twitter to your taskbar and right-clicking reveals a list of commonly performed actions; New Tweet, Direct Messages, Mentions etc. Pinning a site in this way goes some way to making it appear more like an application (on your computer) and less like a website.
No pesky add-ons
Thanks to technologies like HTML5 and hardware accelerated graphics – Internet Explorer is all-around fast.
Internet Explorer 9 is designed to ensure that it starts fast and stays fast over time.
Yet another false promise following the IE8 disaster or have they learned from their mistakes? Have your say.
